Welcome to WPI

WPI is a non-profit medical research institute dedicated to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) and similar infection-associated chronic illnesses. Our mission is to serve this patient population through expert medical care, discovery, education, and individualized support. WPI's unique programs include EducateME, an initiative to create and share educational resources with patients and their doctors; MedME, which supports medical care within the Clinic at WPI; DiscoverME, a joint research effort with the University of Nevada, Reno; and NavigateME, a program designed to help patients live their best lives, ultimately "lighting a way" through post-acute infectious disease.

It’s not just being “tired”—it’s a relentless, crushing exhaustion that no amount of rest can fix, coupled with debilitating pain, brain fog so thick it steals thoughts mid-sentence, and an immune system that reacts as if the body is constantly at war. Simple tasks like showering or sitting upright can feel impossible, and exertion—even mild—can trigger a catastrophic worsening of symptoms, known as post-exertional malaise, that can last for days, weeks, or even permanently. Worst of all, many patients are dismissed, disbelieved, and left without effective treatments, forced to navigate a medical system that has long ignored their suffering. ME/CFS doesn’t just steal energy—it steals lives, dreams, and dignity, leaving millions of people worldwide trapped in an unending cycle of illness with no cure in sight.
